Just Introduced: Talli Singh, Gurgoan, Sector 29

The Leisure Valley in Gurgaon Sector 29 is becoming the abode to the restaurants based on fresh concepts. Joining the trail is the newly opened Talli Singh that wears its chef’s (read: Chef Mahinder Singh Chhikara aka Bobby) clouds on its sleeve.

There is an interesting story behind how this restaurant cum speakeasy place got its name. One night, Bobby sat with his dream and a bottle of a whisky. The bottle happened to be Johnnie Walker. It immediately reminded him of an old veteran Indian comedian who went by the same name (Johnny Walker). The actor along with a contemporary Keshto Mukherjee were known for their “talli” or drunk acts. The idea immediately stuck and resonated with Bobby’s fun loving, easy going and mostly drunk personality. He decided to open Talli Singh – a fun bar mixed with a speakeasy concept where everyone could just come and leave their pre-tensions outside the door.

The interiors of the restaurant spread over two-floors see some interesting wooden panelling along with quirky figures on the wall that make it look like a fun place. The open kitchen on the ground floor adds to the hunger while you look at how your food is being prepared whereas the basement houses the 1920’s – speakeasy bar where the show is run by Kapil Singh Thapa.

Food Talk

The show started with Dahi Ke Kebab, Corn Fujia, Veg-Nanzza and Desi Lucy Burger. Dahi Ke Kebab with subtle flavour of cardamom was melting in mouth and with a hint of garlic flavour, the crispy corns are a must try on the menu. The crispy base of Veg-Nanzza was loaded with exotic veggies and was equally palatable.  Desi Lucy Burger stood out to be the clear winner for the evening with its extra juicy patty made of cauliflower sitting between super soft burger bun.

We also tried their Crispy Veg Mongolian served with boiled rice. This oriental delight that tickled the taste buds with soy sauce, tomato ketchup and ginger drizzled over exotic veggies was a complete meal in itself.

The passion of Kapil Singh Thapa reflects in his cocktails and mocktails. We opted for Lyche Mint Smoothie. The extra smooth smoothie was a perfect blend of yoghurt, lychee and mint. This refreshing mocktail comes highly recommended.

In the end, curb your sweet cravings with Chocolate Lava Cake and Rasmalai. The Chocolate Lava Cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and plenty of hot chocolate sauce was nothing less than a heaven for chocolate lovers like us. Whereas the round fluffy, juicy and spongy clouds dunked in over-boiled milk was the star dish of the evening.
